GARP ANNOUNCES NEW COLLEGE CHAPTER AT HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY, NEW YORK

 

New York, London, Beijing, August 4, 2008 — The Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP: www.garp.org), the leading professional Association dedicated to the advancement of the risk profession, is pleased to announce a new College Chapter at Hofstra University in New York. 

Dr. Ahmet K. Karagozoglu has been appointed College Chapter Director for the University. Dr. Karagozoglu currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Finance, Frank G. Zarb School of Business at Hofstra University.

Hofstra Quants & Traders (HQT) will be the main student organization sponsor of GARP’s College Chapter at Hofstra. Dr. Karagozoglu is the faculty advisor and one of the founders of HQT. Dr. Karagozoglu will be both the academic adviser of HQT and the GARP College Chapter Director. This dual role will allow him to promote GARP and risk management much more efficiently among Hofstra students.

About Dr. Ahmet K. Karagozoglu
Dr. Ahmet Karagozoglu, Associate Professor of Finance, is the Academic Director of the Martin B. Greenberg Trading Room and the faculty adviser of Hofstra Quants & Traders Club (HQT). Dr. Karagozoglu’s teaching focuses on options, futures, financial modeling and risk management.

Dr. Karagozoglu's primary research interests are in the area of futures markets, option pricing, market microstructure, interest rate derivatives and risk management. His work has been published in the Journal of Futures Markets, the Financial Review, the Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, the Journal of Fixed Income, the Review of Futures Markets, and the Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money. He has presented papers at the annual conferences of the Financial Management Association, the Eastern Finance Association, the Midwest Finance Association, the Multinational Finance Society, and the International Association of Financial Engineers. He has also presented his research at the Asia-Pacific Futures Research Symposium and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and was invited to participate Chicago Board of Trade Research Seminar.

Prior to coming to Hofstra University, Dr. Karagozoglu taught full-time at Baruch College both at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Dr. Karagozoglu has provided risk management consulting to commodities funds.
