Introduction
The Certificate in Energy Risk Management is designed to provide candidates with a comprehensive understanding of the energy industry. It offers a practical starting point for those wanting to advance their careers in financial risk management in the energy industry. The Certificate is also recommended for staff whose performance may be enhanced by developing a greater understanding of the characteristics of the industry's component commodities and how they interrelate.
The Certificate covers both the physical marketplace and financial trading, as well as the sophisticated financial instruments used by both producers and consumers to price and hedge oil and refined products, natural gas, liquefied natural gas and electrical power. In addition, candidates will gain an overview of the regulations that apply to the management and supervision of financial risk in the energy industry.
The aim of the Certificate is to develop a candidate’s knowledge of the energy industry based on accepted industry standards and practices. With the increasing globalization and interdependence of energy products, delivery mechanisms and risk management techniques, it is imperative that everyone in the energy industry ‘speaks the same language’.
