Preparing for the FRM Exam
GARP provides numerous resources to assist candidates with preparing for the exam.
- 2008 FRM Study Guide – Freely available document that outlines the topics and subtopics covered in the FRM exam. This document is an absolute must-read for anyone considering taking the FRM exam. The topics are selected by the FRM Committee as being representative of the theories and concepts utilized by risk management professionals as they address current issues. The topics are reviewed yearly to ensure the FRM exam is kept timely and relevant. The FRM Study Guide also lists recommended readings from which the FRM exam questions are derived.
- Applying Instructional Materials Statements (AIMS) – Freely available to paid 2008 FRM candidates, AIMS address each subtopic set out in the study guide and helps candidates identify specific concepts they should understand from the recommended readings.
- The FRM Handbook, 4th Edition by Philippe Jorion (includes FRM Sample Review Test Interactive CD) – Filled with in-depth insight and practical advice, the Financial Risk Manager Handbook is the core text for risk management training programs worldwide. Presented in a clear and consistent fashion, the completely updated Fourth Edition is a great resource in preparing for the FRM exam.
- 2008 FRM Practice Exams – The 2008 FRM Practice Exams I II and III have been developed to aid candidates in their preparation for the FRM Examination in November 2008. These practice exams are based on a sample of questions from the 2006 FRM Examination and are representative of the questions that will be in the 2008 FRM Examination. Each exam contains 40 multiple-choice questions, and the downloaded file includes candidate answer sheets, exam questions, exam answer keys, and detailed explanations for all answers. Paid 2008 FRM Candidates can get the 2008 FRM Practice Exams through the GARP Digital Library for free– log into the library, go to the 2008 FRM Practice Exam page, click “Add to Cart”, then click the “Checkout” button near the top right corner. This is an ideal way to gauge how prepared you are for this year’s FRM exam.

- FRM Training Course Providers – GARP does not offer an FRM preparation course as the Association considers this a conflict of interest. As a service to our FRM candidates, GARP does provide a list of FRM course providers. FRM course providers offer a variety of training methods designed to prepare candidates for the FRM, including classroom, distance and online options. Please note that GARP does not endorse any FRM review course. These Course Providers have asked to have their information posted for your review and are not selected by GARP.
