The Basics of Collateralized Loan Obligations

We explore the basics concepts of CLOs, which are structured-finance vehicles that issue securities backed by a pool of corporate loans. We focus on characteristics that are relevant to understanding current risk conditions. In addition to structure and assets and liabilities, we discuss asset quality tests and diversion of cash flow, reinvestment periods, call protection and other key characteristics.
