- Candidates will have six months from the date of registration to pass the Certificate exam. Candidates who fail to do so or who fail to attempt to pass the examination within the six month registration period must reregister as a new candidate.
- The exam is offered through Pearson VUE test centers. Candidates wishing to take the examination must have first registered and paid with GARP and have received an Authorization Letter with their examination registration details via e-mail. They must book the date of their examination and the examination center through Pearson VUE (see their website at www.vue.com/garp for details.)
- Upon receiving payment, GARP will issue your Authorization Letter via e-mail. However, you may obtain a copy of your Authorization Letter by clicking here. Please note that you will need your GARP ID, log-in e-mail address and password.
- When completing the GARP registration form, candidates must use the name exactly as it appears on their current passport and/or government issued photo ID. If the name used to register differs from the candidates formal ID they will not be admitted to the test site.
- An un-expired passport and/or government issued photo ID is the only valid identification for examination purposes. Candidates who do not provide valid identification will be refused entry to the examination. GARP’s Identification Policy will be strictly enforced.
- The Certificate exam consists of 120 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 175 minutes. A candidate needs to answer 80 questions correctly in order to pass. The examination will be given in electronic form.
- Questions will be presented randomly and not by category, e.g. Market Risk, Credit Risk, as the candidate is expected to be able to address risk-related issues in a comprehensive way.
- If a complete new version of the workbook is released during a candidate's six month registration period, the new version will not be sent to the candidate. Candidates should continue to use the original workbook sent to them upon initial registration.
- Examination results will be provided immediately upon completion of the examination by touching the results button on the computer’s touch screen.
- Candidates are not permitted to take any personal possessions into the examination. This includes calculators, pens, papers or books of any kind. If any such items are required they will be provided by Pearson VUE at the test center.
- Candidates can not transfer their registration to another candidate.
- Candidates will not be allowed to extend the time period in which they are required to take and pass the examinations (see Examination Timelines and Preparation section).
- All candidates must comply with Pearson VUE test center rules.
- It is the responsibility of the candidate to inform GARP of any change to their personal information. Candidates who change their legal name or address during their registration period must contact the GARP Risk Academy to arrange for their Pearson VUE registration to be updated. (Go to www.garp.com/membership/updatemember.aspx to do so)
- Candidates have six months from the date of registering or re-registering to pass the examination. During this period, the candidate may make a maximum of two attempts to pass the Certificate examination. Candidates who either fail, or do not take the module examination within their six month registration period, must reregister and pay another full registration fee.
- Should a candidate fail an examination he/she will have to wait for a period of 28 days to retake the exam. Should the candidate fail the examination less than 28 days prior to the expiration of the six month period they will have to wait for a period of 28 days to retake the examination irrespective of whether they are required to register as a new candidate because their 2 year time limit has expired or the six month examination time period has expired.
- For candidates having little industry experience, or for those not versed in banking risk-related issues, it is recommended that they spend at least two months reviewing the materials before making their first attempt to pass the examination.
