Examples of Corporate Programs
Here's some examples of what other companies will be doing to help create a culture of risk awareness by working with GARP:
Mergers and Acquisitions
- There is a unique challenge when uniting the risk management areas of organizations that speak different languages and have differing levels of risk management competencies. Utilizing the Foundations of Financial Risk program is a way to assure everyone in the newly acquired company is 'on the same page' knowledge-wise. Also, the department heads should be encouraged to take the Certification programs, such as the International Certificate in Banking Risk and Regulation.
Employee Orientation
- For the energy industry, the Foundations of Energy Risk Management can be used as an orientation program for all new employees so that they truly understand the physical and financial aspects of the energy industry. For banks, the Foundations of Banking Risk and Regulation is ideal for orientating new employees since it covers all the key aspects of banking risks - market risk, credit risk, liquidity risk, and operational risk - as well as an overview of Basel II.
Professional Development
- Many large banks are offering their employees a reimbursement program for the International Certificate in Banking Risk and Regulation. They feel this approach will incent their employees to pursue this Certificate while gaining a comprehensive understanding of banking risks and regulations.
- Several large banks are using GARP to conduct on-site comprehensive credit and strategic risk management training for their risk professionals. These customized workshops integrate the bank's specific risk appetite and modeling processess to make the content much more relevant to the employees. In addition, one large global bank tests their risk managers at the end of the 5 day workshop via a comprehensive case study that is reviewed and scored.
Multi-lingual
- Often an organization would like to increase the risk awareness of all its employees in various countries, speaking various languages. Our Foundations of Financial Risk programs can be translated into any language to help achieve this goal. A particularly appealing feature of the program is that each employee can take an assessment test at the completion of training, assuring all employees have the same level of comprehension.
